Celebrating 25 Years of the Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement

The 25th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Collaborative Agreement provides an important opportunity to reflect on a quarter-century of work to strengthen relationships among Cincinnati residents, law enforcement, community organizations, and public institutions. Born from a challenging period in Cincinnati’s history, the Collaborative Agreement established a new approach to community-police relations built around cooperation, accountability, problem-solving, transparency, and meaningful community participation. This anniversary conference is not simply a celebration of what has been accomplished; it is an opportunity to educate a new generation of Cincinnati residents about the Collaborative, examine its impact, and consider how its principles can continue to serve our community. Participants will learn about the history and purpose of the Collaborative Agreement, the role citizens played in its development, the progress that has been made, and the challenges that remain. Just as importantly, the conference will create a space for residents, young people, community leaders, law enforcement officers, advocates, researchers, and other stakeholders to discuss what the Collaborative should become over the next 25 years.

Cincinnati has changed significantly since the Agreement was established, and the Collaborative must continue to evolve with the city it serves. New technologies, changing neighborhoods, emerging public-safety concerns, and the expectations of younger generations require us to examine existing strategies and develop new approaches that keep the Collaborative relevant, effective, and responsive. The 25th Anniversary Conference therefore looks both backward and forward—honoring the individuals and organizations whose efforts helped create a nationally significant model for collaborative reform while inviting today’s citizens to help shape its future. By bringing people together to learn, listen, question, and develop new ideas, we can renew the spirit of collaboration and ensure that Cincinnati continues building safer neighborhoods, stronger relationships, greater trust, and a community in which every resident has a meaningful voice in the future of public safety.
